Your Dollars Save Lives
Donations to PawMatch help us provide shelter and great care for all the cats and dogs we take in and adopt out in Austin. There are many easy ways to donate, and even more good reasons.
Monetary Donations
Monetary donations go a long way to help rescued cats and dogs that we work to place into permanent homes. For example:
- $50 provides food and shelter for one animal for 3 months
- $100 vaccinates 10 animals
- $150 spays or neuters 10 animals
- $500 feeds 200 animals for one week
- $1000 provides shelter for 200 animals for one month
On-Site Donations
When you visit any of our adoption outreach locations, we encourage you to make a donation to PawMatch to help us continue to care for and shelter homeless cats and dogs. On-site, we can accept cash and checks, which can be given to the PawMatch counselors at our adoption outreach locations. Or you can mail a check to:

Planned Giving
Planned giving is another great way to give to PawMatch and it can be done by anyone! Planned Giving involves integrating a donor's charitable gift into his or her overall financial, tax, and estate planning so as to maximize benefits to both the donor and to PawMatch. Planned gifts typically come from a donor's assets rather than income, and can be either outright or deferred. We recommend that you consult with your tax or legal advisors prior to making a planned gift. Here are some options for you to consider:
- Bequests by Will: You can make a bequest to PawMatch as a part of your will. This can be a great way to reduce estate taxes. Pleased consult an attorney to incorporate such a bequest to PawMatch.
- Life Insurance Gifts: A gift of one of your life insurance policies to PawMatch can result in an income tax deduction at the time of your gift. And if you continue to pay the premiums on the policy, those may also be deducted as a charitable contribution. Again, consult your financial planner or attorney.
- The Annuity Trust: The Annuity Trust allows you to transfer cash, securities, or other property into an irrevocable trust with a fixed dollar amount of your gift paid to you as long as you live. If you prefer, you can also direct that the same fixed income be paid to any of your surviving beneficiaries for as long as they live, and then the remaining principal would be used by PawMatch.
Securities Donations
Making a donation of securities to PawMatch provides you several benefits. A securities donation allows you to:
- Take a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value of the gifted securities as of the date of the gift.
- Eliminate capital gains tax that would ordinarily become due if you had sold the appreciated securities on the open market and donated the proceeds from the sale to charity.
- Claim up to 30% of your adjusted gross income and any unused deductions can be carried forward over the next five years.
- Achieve your long-term financial objective of reducing your income and estate taxes.
- If you find that you have securities that have declined in value over the years and are interested in donating them to charity, you may find it more advantageous to sell the securities first and contribute the proceeds to charity as opposed to donating the securities outright. This strategy should allow you to claim a deduction for both the loss from the sale of the securities as well as the charitable gift.
Note: If you are considering donating stock that is subject to a cash merger or tender offer, it is important to understand that you will be subject to tax on the capital gain even though the shares were transferred to charity before the tender offer became effective. You should always consult with your financial advisor before initiating a charitable gift arrangement.
