Checkers Reunited with His Family

I stopped to talk to the guy sitting out there about my beagle we'd just adopted last month when, before I could finish my train of thought, I recognized our long-lost dog. Checkers (Bull Dozer) was right there!!

One night last October, he kept scratching, so I took off his collar because the tags where keeping me up. Somehow, the next morning, he got out without us knowing. He always stayed right beside any of us when we were outside. We searched, posted and prayed to find him. My son, whose dog he is, was devastated, swearing never to love another dog again. I cannot express enough how grateful we are, that the woman who found him took good care of him, and then surrendered him. We live far from Slaughter Lane, and just on a spur of the moment decided to go in. Thank you so much for being there today. My son was overjoyed to see him again. And so was Checkers, he couldn't stop jumping and running back and forth to him. It was one of the sweetest things I've seen in a long time. Things seem to be back to normal, Checkers is asleep on his bed, like old times. Over and over, thank you!!!

Open House at Our New Site (2007)

PawMatch is the lucky recipient of a land donation in southeast Austin. Located at 14108 FM812, this land is where we'll have our permanent facility. On March 10, we began the process of getting fencing installed, buildings painted, kennels built, and so on. On April 1, we held an open house so that folks could see the progress we'd made and all the possibilities to be explored.

9th Annual Adoption Days (2006)

Petco in Round Rock and PawMatch celebrated the 9th Annual Adoption Days on April 8 & 9. Everyone had a great time. There were plenty of adoptions (everyone adopting got a wondeful bag full of goodies for their new family member) as well of many vendors helping to support us including Best Vet, Firebowl, Circuit City, Krispy Kreme, and there were prizes, raffles, charicature drawings, sno-cones as well. Check out the photo gallery.

Our thanks to everyone who participated, and an extra special thanks to Missy of Petco for setting up this whole event for the Spring A Pet campaign, which will benefit PawMatch.

Dog Show Benefit (2006)

Thanks to Ron Collins (shown below with Daisy, the bloodhound) for putting on a National Kennel Club Dog Show to benefit PawMatch. Despite the poor weather, our very own volunteer, Jennifer, entered with her dog Lucky. Also shown is Samantha Michelle with her doberman Delida, after receiving a blue ribbon.

Benefit at Opal Devine's (2005)

Everyone partied at Opal Devine's

The benefit concert at Opal Devine's South was a great success. We hope that you were able to make it, but if not, you missed an afternoon full of incrediblly talented and generous local musicians playing to support PawMatch. Lots of folks came by (both with and without their dogs) to enjoy the music and a few even left with an addition of a dog or cat to their family. There were raffles throughout the event and many folks left the event as winners. Over $700 was donated to PawMatch from the event and it helped to make the Austin music scene aware of our efforts. Extra thanks to Opal Devine's, Sleazy Cherub, Colin Gilmore, Brian Keane, The Possums, The White Ghost Shivers, and Kristin Womersley for organizing the whole event. Your efforts have helped to save more animals' lives. Re-live the party with these photos.

Grand Opening at Whole Foods (2005)

It was a true "Dog Day Afternoon," and despite the 102 degree heat, the PawMatch Grand Opening at Whole Foods Market was a great success!

With celebratory banners, balloons, cats, dogs, and volunteers we announced ourselves to the public. We were located in the upper parking area where there was plenty of traffic. Austin is such an animal-friendly town, and we received a lot of support and praise for our beginning efforts. In fact, we may have some new volunteers to help aid in our cause.

Whole Foods Market graciously hosted our celebration and provided us with much needed water and food, as well as made announcements throughout the day to let shoppers know we were there. We found loving homes for two kittens and one dog during our Grand Opening and celebrated our 50th pet adoption and life saved. See photos of our Grand Opening.
