Volunteer Standards at Adoption Locations
When you are volunteering, you act as a PawMatch representative to the general public as well as the retail establishment host. Therefore, it is imperative that you abide by these standards and rules set forth.
- Act professionally, politely, and with respect to all PawMatch representatives, the public, and any employees of our retail establishment host. If you are asked a question and do not know the answer, please direct the person to the PawMatch Adoption Counselor.
- Treat all animals gently and with kindness. Do your best to make the animal more adoptable. That may mean helping to socialize a dog, walking a dog, aiding with a cat adoption, cleaning up animal messes, etc. If you are walking a dog and it relieves itself, it is your responsibility to clean up the mess in an appropriate manner.
- Act professionally and represent PawMatch well. That means no yelling, running, playing with toys, playing with merchandise, etc., either outside in the PawMatch adoption area or inside the retail establishment host.
- Follow all directions of the PawMatch Adoption Counselor. Do not contradict what he or she says; the Adoption Counselor's word is final to both volunteers and the general public.
- Do not block the entrance to the retail establishment host, either physically yourself, with dogs, or with debris.
- Do not bring friends or acquaintances to the PawMatch Key Adoption Location, unless they too are PawMatch volunteers, wish to adopt an animal, or wish to shop at the retail establishment host.
- You are to wear a PawMatch t-shirt when volunteering. If one has not been provided to you, please dress appropriately. Do not wear clothing that may be construed as obscene or offensive, or may hinder your work with the animals. A proper top, jeans, and closed-toed shoes are requested.
- You are to remain truthful and honest at all times while you volunteer. Any theft is not acceptable.
Volunteering for PawMatch is intended to aid the animals and organization. You represent PawMatch and your conduct should be a credit to our organization. If these standards are not followed, you may be harming the organization, as well as our relationship with the public and retail establishment host. You may also be jeopardizing the adoption of our animals. Any failure to observe these standards will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave the site or discontinue volunteering for PawMatch.
That said, we at PawMatch are extremely grateful for all of the volunteer service provided. Without your help, PawMatch would not be as successful at finding homes for shelter animals. We thank you so much for all of your support.
